What is a dental bridge?
If you are missing one or more permanent teeth, Dr. Lockwood may recommend a dental bridge in Kenai, Alaska. A dental bridge is an appliance that closes the gaps in your smile by replacing missing teeth. A dental bridge consists of dental crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. These teeth are called abutment teeth. A replacement tooth is attached between the dental crowns. Our dentist may suggest a dental bridge to:
- Restore your smile
- Restore your ability to eat and speak properly
- Properly maintain your face shape
- Properly distribute your bite
- Prevent your natural teeth from drifting
How is a dental bridge placed?
Our dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from the abutment teeth. This will allow room for the dental bridge in your mouth. Impressions of the teeth are made so the dental bridge can be constructed. When the dental bridge is complete, Dr. Lockwood will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. After the ideal fit is achieved, the dental bridge is permanently cemented in place.
