What is sedation dentistry?

Does the thought of visiting a dental office fill you with fear? Do you often feel nervous or anxious leading up to or during dental procedures? We cater to cowards! Dr. Lockwood is excited to offer sedation dentistry in Kenai, Alaska. Sedation dentistry is the use of medicine to help anxious patients relax during dental treatments. At Kenai Dental Clinic, we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

What is nitrous oxide?

To help you relax, our dentists will place a small mask over your nose. Through this, you will breathe a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. The gas will calm you, but you will remain awake. Our dentist will monitor and control the amount of sedation you receive. After the procedure, the gas will wear off quickly and you will be able to drive yourself home.

What is oral sedation?

If you choose oral sedation, our dentist will have you take a pill about an hour before the dental procedure. The pill will make you drowsy, but you will remain awake. The medication may cause you to slur your words when you speak and you may not remember much of the dental procedure. Our dentists can adjust the level of sedation by the dosage given.
