Why should dental emergencies be treated quickly?
Dental emergencies are potentially serious and should never be ignored. When a dental emergency is ignored, permanent damage can occur and more expensive treatment will be needed later on. Quick treatment will minimize the damage and prevent expensive, invasive treatment later on. When needed, Dr. Lockwood will treat a dental emergency in Kenai, Alaska.
What should I do in the case of a dental emergency?
In all cases, we urge you to visit our dentist as soon as possible. If you have a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water. Using floss, remove any food stuck between your teeth. Use a cold compress to control any swelling. If you have a chipped or broken tooth, save the pieces. Rinse your mouth and the tooth pieces with warm water. Use gauze to control any bleeding and a cold compress to control any swelling and pain. In the case of a knocked out tooth, rinse the tooth and try to put it back in the socket. Make sure the tooth is facing the right direction and never try to force it back in place. If the tooth will not reinsert easily, place it in a cup of milk and bring it when you see our dentists.
